How to Replace a Fender Skirt on Your RV: Step-by-Step Guide

Over time, your RV's fender skirt may become damaged or discolored due to wear and tear. Whether you're looking to restore the aesthetic appeal of your RV or need a functional replacement, this guide will walk you through the process of replacing a fender skirt.

Tools Required

Before you start, ensure you have the following tools and materials:

  • Screw-gun with a square bit
  • 1/8” drill bit
  • Razor knife
  • Shop rags and adhesive remover
  • Caulk gun and RV-grade silicone sealant
  • Rubber gloves

Directions

Step 1: Prepare the Area

If the fender skirt is sealed, begin by carefully cutting the sealant using a razor knife. Take care not to damage the metal of the skirt during this process.

Step 2: Remove the Screws

  • Outer Screws: Start removing the outer screws, working your way toward the center. Leave one screw in the center to hold the skirt in place temporarily.
  • Lower Support Screws: If your fender skirt has any lower support screws, remove those as well.

Step 3: Remove the Last Screw

Once you’ve removed all the outer screws and lower support screws, use your free hand to hold the fender skirt. Then, remove the last screw in the center.

Step 4: Clean the Surface

After removing the fender skirt, clean the skirt metal and remove any old silicone sealant using shop rags and adhesive remover.

Step 5: Pre-drill Holes

If needed, pre-drill holes in the new fender skirt to match the mounting points on your RV. This will help with the installation process.

Step 6: Install the New Fender Skirt

  • Position the Skirt: Begin installing the new fender skirt starting from the center and working your way outward.
  • Secure with Screws: Attach the screws to secure the skirt in place.

Step 7: Attach Lower Support Screws

If applicable, reattach the lower support screws to provide additional stability to the fender skirt.

Step 8: Seal the Edges

If necessary, apply RV-grade silicone sealant to the edges of the fender skirt to create a watertight seal.
