Go Jump! on Bridge Day at New River Gorge

When you've got an RV, you have a second home that can take you anywhere. So go somewhere interesting; somewhere different.

How about a getaway to the crossroads of scenic beauty and high adventure? Head to a secluded bridge, tucked away in the West Virginia hills, where people line up once a year to jump off.

Bridge Day, October 19, 2013

ADVENTURE

BASE jumpers throw themselves (or get catapulted) from the top of this 876-foot bridge to the New River Gorge below every third Saturday in October during Bridge Day.

Rapellers also drop from the bridge, and zipliners zoom into the Gorge from it. It's a one-of-a-kind extreme sports festival.

This year, there will also be an extreme pogo sticking team entertaining the crowds, Xpogo. You'll never see this toy the same after you've watched these gravity-defying Xpogo stunts.

You can get in on the action, too, by booking a raft trip during Bridge Day. Watch the parachutes fly open from below as you battle the raging rapids with your paddle. It's a great family adventure, with a kick.

Or, if you're really feeling adventurous, you can enter the 2013 tandem BASE jump contest, and earn yourself a chance to strap on to a pro and take the jump yourself.

MORE FESTIVAL FUN

The festival is more than just adventure.

Get a real taste of local flavor at Taste of Bridge Day, where the area's most unique eateries show off their best. The nearby town of Fayetteville is a center for culinary creativity, from sandwich shops serving up bacon jam to gourmet pizza joints that pair their pies with craft brews.

The festival also features vendors from around the state, who do their best to engage the crowds with games and giveaways.

LOCAL ENTERTAINMENT

Extend your RV trip through the weekend and explore more of the local charm.

Tumble into the Mystery Hole, an odd little attraction that's literally off the beaten path, just off of a windy mountain road. You'll know it when you see it. Trust us.

Shop unique West Virginia handcrafts in Fayetteville's diverse, independently-owned shops, or from the artisans featured at Tamarack, a showcase of the state's best.

Stop by the New River Gorge Convention and Visitor's Bureau for trail maps to take a hike or bike into the scenic beauty of West Virginia's rolling hills, rushing falls and sweeping overlooks. The ladies of the CVB will also be more than happy to tell you about everything there is to do nearby. There's something to suit every taste.
